Teachers and Social workers of the Livermore Unified School District (LUSD) provide names of the students, (CISSP) then contacts the family to see if they would like the supplies. Only those making the initial contact with the family, a distribution coordinator and adult volunteers who deliver the packs to the family know the names of recipents.
Each congregation determines the number of backpacks (filled) they can provide. Typically members participate either by donating money towards the project or by buying backpacks and filling them with a list of supplies. With the outside funds (CISSP) can provide approximatley 700-800 filled backpacks a year to students. Volunteers deliver packs on the last Saturday morning in August. There are no overhead expenses and therfore 100% of all contrubutions goes toward these backpacks .
